A Place To Bury Strangers ~ Let’s See Each Other (Grimoose Remix)  [2⊘21]

While some bands may strive for a level production in most endeavors, others prefer to more proverbially “fly by the seat of their pants“. A Place To Bury Strangers, also known as APTBS, is firmly stationed in the latter with their renowned live performances considered the stuff of legend by those embracing insane antics with ear-splitting volumes to the chagrin of non-Spinal Tapians everywhere.

APTBS was born of the DIY movement in native New York City, so named for their want of muscular, musical self-reliance due to an overriding lack of funds. Yet instead of treating this as unfortunate, they would frame it as an opportunity to embrace a more natural-sounding rawness, perhaps akin to the garage band movement, but rather on steroids. A joyous exchange of the staid and bounded for the brazen and boundaryless. When funding did arrive, it would be funneled to tours in Europe, new equipment to trash, and necessary instrument repairs with resilience upgrades.

Left to right, Oliver Ackermann (vocals, guitar), Lia Simone Braswell (drums, vocals), and Dion Lunadon (vocals, bass)

Analogous to the concept of “happy accidents“, actively sought after by Budgie of Siouxsie and the Banshees in their studio, APTBS frontman Oliver allows similarly yet while playing live. “We definitely work ourselves up into a frenzy — you sort of want that to happen. At that point, when you’ve reached your limit and gone beyond what is normal or controllable for yourself, that’s when something magical happens… the point at which, all of a sudden, there are these weird accidents or these moments of pure energy that occur. It’s very exciting.

This Grimoose remixed version of “Let’s See Each Other” cleverly stutter-steps the original track (also included below) syncing tempos-to-visuals in mini-crescendos of pleasure and delight capturing the song’s essence sans DIY sound in favor of a near Wire-esque resonant reboot. Still a deafening pronouncement of passion over monotony, even without being turned “up to eleven“.

    1. I’m glad you liked it. If they’d been related it would’ve been contrasty but unsurprising considering the weird backgrounds of so many songs that I’ve researched. Kinda wish it’d been true, lol. Thanks for sharing!

      1. Mybe it is true and the younger one changed his name to not be thought ‘kid of famous person’…? We could make up any story but it might not be true! The ages (on wikipedia) work, 47 and 74, for parent/kid or big gap in sibling ages–

  1. I like this too. It’s very catchy. They remind me of a band I have in my collection, but I can’t pinpoint which one. It’s on the tip of my tongue. Don’t you hate when that happens?!

    1. Drives me nuts and happens all the time too. I eventually figure it out, but sometimes it takes months, lol. Thanks for sharing, Maryanne.

      1. Yeah, I was listening to another band I haven’t heard of before yesterday called Claire Voyance. They were incredible and I’m like “Who do they sound like?”
For them it came to me right away though.

  2. Thanks for that recommendation, it’s gorgeous!
I just learned of this band yesterday and have plenty of exploring to do.
This one has elements of The Cranberries to me. What do you think?
