Previously featured Bootblacks song “Birds” is in stark contrast to newly released “Wilderness“, with “Birds” being a cryptic, wildly deep dive into gothic jazz fusion, while “Wilderness” instead builds on a concrete base of Miami Vice synthwave, overlaid sparkly driven guitars in retro rapturous delight.
“In this life, we’re not alone
You’re the only one I’ve ever known
When the sky turns to black
It’s your call that keeps me coming back”
Singer Panther Almqvist explains the band’s new musical direction: “We have been trying to experiment more with electronic music and sounds on this album. ‘Wilderness’ is one of those songs where we’ve incorporated stricter electro elements and is representative towards the new approach and style we’re building on the album. We’re big fans of juxtaposition so its tone and structure are somewhat darker but yet still upbeat.“

.
“He’s looking a way. that tears at your heart
But what can I say? Go back to the start”
In several ways, the band has pointedly stepped outside their comfort zone with synthetic drums and a new Germany-based guitarist (and longtime friend) Kalle Falleberg. As such, jam sessions are now conducted via the Internet and are perhaps less impulsive and more directed as the band incorporates this new dimensionality into their creative vernacular.
(”I can remember every talk, every breath, every word never said, I remember everything, we were near”)
“Wilderness“, like previously released single “Forbidden Flames” (included below), is an exciting foreshadowing of the band’s soon-to-be-released album Paradise, embracing a new retro synthwave motif, aspiring to future horizons “full of fire“.
“You see behind my lies, you tell me who you know
The one who’s broken, hides and never shows”

I really like their sound. It has elements of Joy Division, Pet Shop Boys and Depeche Mode, yet sounds unique.
Very 80s agreed. It’s definitely a change from their darkwave roots to this more synthwave sound. Thanks, Jeff.
