Puscifer – Momma Sed

The deeply talented, at times irreverent, Maynard James Keenan, lead singer and chief protagonist of both Tool and A Perfect Circle fame decided in 2007 to found his third band Puscifer he once described as “the space where my Id, Ego, and Anima all come together to exchange cookie recipes.” This, to be his ‘for fun’ group, not dissimilar to Ministry’s Al Jourgensen’s ‘for fun’ group Revolting Cocks. Over the years … Continue reading Puscifer – Momma Sed

Twin Tribes – Portal to the Void

Bands often write their own bios on Spotify, so perhaps surprising that Twin Tribes brothers Luis Navarro (Vox/Guitar/Synth) and Joel Niño Jr. (Bass/Synth) have simply written, “Dark melodic sounds, synthesizers, lyrics about the undead, the occult and parallel universes.” Straightforward and direct, especially the part about the occult, as they have at least one video that is made to seem like a kidnapping/snuff film (awesome … Continue reading Twin Tribes – Portal to the Void

Ash Code – Betrayed

Post-punk, Italian-electro, darkwave staples Ash Code are Claudia with twin brothers Alessandro and Adriano, self-described as “dark ballads, deep and melancholic synths, noise and distortions, dances of death.” The band name being “Ash” in homage to their local volcano Mount Vesuvius, in Napoli, and “Code” to evoke something both indefinite yet existentialist. The song “Betrayed” seeming to relate the story of a spurned love forced by fear of loneliness to remain with their Judas. “I wish … Continue reading Ash Code – Betrayed

Molchat Doma – Zvezdy (Stars)

The Belarusian trio hailing from Minsk that is Molchat Doma (“Houses are Silent”) have been taking the post-punk community by storm over the last several years, culminating in this live three-song session released March of 2020 (MENT x ETEP). Notably, I’m more fond of the first two of these three songs and focusing on only the first, Zvezdy (Stars) which strikingly is a love song. Lead singer Egor Shkutko’s vocals have been described … Continue reading Molchat Doma – Zvezdy (Stars)

The Horrors – Still Life

Sporting a sound at once a mix of shoegaze, post-punk, and goth, The Horrors released this lollipop-swirly emotion-laden piece of neo-psychedelia on their 2011 album Skying. Ethereal and timeless, the song appears to sing one who is pining for a lost love and a reminder from each to the other that they will meet again. “The moment that you want is coming if you give it time.” Though unable to respond, they continue waiting … Continue reading The Horrors – Still Life
