The Doctors – Unterwelt (Underworld)

Also known as, dctrs, The Doctors were founded in Bordeaux, France in 2010 and anything else regarding them is surprisingly difficult to uncover. Happily though, they personify a favorite genre portmanteau “coldwave” to the hilt. Off-kilter and broken clockworks-sounding with just enough grittiness of normality to carry itself lurchingly upright and forward, with a video to match, “Underworld” is free to darken my soul at … Continue reading The Doctors – Unterwelt (Underworld)

Wisborg – Beautiful & Broken (She Pleasures Herself Remix)

This remix is such a radical twist-up of the original Wisborg track that I will share the focus with the remixers. German Wisborg’s original version is more edgy with heavy guitars and far less electronica and as such it has a grittier feel. With this remix, Portuguese band She Pleasures Herself completely transforms the track by adding a deep bass synth groove with … Continue reading Wisborg – Beautiful & Broken (She Pleasures Herself Remix)

Fragrance – Heatwave

Fragrance founder Matthieu Roche from Paris, France, released this track “Heatwave” on his debut EP Dust & Disorders in 2017. The video footage is taken from the 1950 movie “Where Danger Lives” and works appreciably well given some cleverly-layered film choreography. Dark, dreamy, and mesmerizing, this tune is a relaxing retro foray into neo-90’s-synthpop that has me looking forward to future parfums de France. More … Continue reading Fragrance – Heatwave

Agent Side Grinder – Stripdown

Tenor sax solo… wait what? At once a richly, ploddingly, indefatigable darkwave track and then out of nowhere, BOOM, they throw in a tasty sax solo. “Mind is deconstructing. Mind is … Continue reading Agent Side Grinder – Stripdown

Schrödinger – Bloody Eyes

A lot of the music I enjoy could be considered by some to be unconventional (yes, I’m strange even by goth standards). Well, how about a little gothic-surfer music? Schrödinger dropped this track from their debut album “Last Days on Earth” appropriately released on Halloween in this year of our lord, 2020. For many of us, the album title is unfortunately more than a little relevant. Thankfully though, Schrödinger graciously shared this positively-catchy bit of beach-blanket-bingo earworm-candy. Post-punk Mexican … Continue reading Schrödinger – Bloody Eyes
