Rezz & Grabbitz – Someone Else

Isabelle Rezazadeh, “Space Mom” AKA Rezz wows us in her collaboration with Grabbitz (Nicholas Chiari). Stylishly-sneaky this track pulses with Reznor-like slinking bass and somewhat Beatlesque-layered harmonies that combine in dark-euphoric splendor over the chorus. Rezz has said her music starts with just “messing around” after which she finds a collaborator, in this case, producer/songwriter Grabbitz. The video was undone from its original form (due to pandemic) and finally made with iPhone … Continue reading Rezz & Grabbitz – Someone Else

Molchat Doma – Zvezdy (Stars)

The Belarusian trio hailing from Minsk that is Molchat Doma (“Houses are Silent”) have been taking the post-punk community by storm over the last several years, culminating in this live three-song session released March of 2020 (MENT x ETEP). Notably, I’m more fond of the first two of these three songs and focusing on only the first, Zvezdy (Stars) which strikingly is a love song. Lead singer Egor Shkutko’s vocals have been described … Continue reading Molchat Doma – Zvezdy (Stars)

Velvet Kills – Faster Speed Faster

Genre-defining, Portugal’s Velvet Kills are Su Eko on Vocals/Bass and Harris Iveson on Guitar/Synths, together creating a noise one could describe as synth-punk with erotic tendencies. Taken from their 2017 album “Mischievous Urges”, this opening track’s sound is almost tribal in tone, a slow, deliberate ancient pagan ritual — a soundtrack to Caligula. Their favorite sound descriptors given thus are “Avant-garde Punk”, “Synth-Glam” and … Continue reading Velvet Kills – Faster Speed Faster

O. Children – Ruins

Lead singer Tobi O’Kandi standing at a larger-than-life 6’8″ smoothly croons in characteristic baritone this one of a pair of minor hits from 2009/2010 (the other penned “Dead Disco Dancer”). Sadly, O’ Children (so named for a Nick Cave song) have since broken up with O’Kandi a now solo act. Interestingly, previous to O. Children, O’Kandi was paired with drummer Andi Sleath in the band Bono Must Die, until said U2 namesake … Continue reading O. Children – Ruins

Wisborg – Beautiful & Broken (She Pleasures Herself Remix)

This remix is such a radical twist-up of the original Wisborg track that I will share the focus with the remixers. German Wisborg’s original version is more edgy with heavy guitars and far less electronica and as such it has a grittier feel. With this remix, Portuguese band She Pleasures Herself completely transforms the track by adding a deep bass synth groove with … Continue reading Wisborg – Beautiful & Broken (She Pleasures Herself Remix)
